The new, ECOSine Active
™ 60 Amp
filter from Schaffner is designed for
harmonics mitigation in commercial and
industrial electrical installations where
loading can change rapidly, and in a
non-predictable manner. As an example, the
ECOSine Active
™ 60 Amp filter can ‘unload’ not only
the neutral from unwanted triplen harmonics,
but also reduce phase current in risers thus
significantly reducing energy loss in
conductors and in upstream gear including
switchboards and transformers. The ECOSine
Active ™
60 Amp filter is therefore ideally suited to
major installations such as hospitals, banks
and other financial institutions where large
IT loads can be expected. The ECOSine Active
™ 60 Amp
filter also sharply decreases voltage
distortion from the main reticulation thus
providing far more reliable operation of
voltage-sensitive loads including medical
electronics and other hospital equipment.
The ECOSine Active
™ 60 Amp
filter absorbs harmonic components
originating from the connected loads, in the
three phases and the neutral. Absorbing
harmonics in the neutral is essential in
that generally loads are not balanced or
vary over time, thus causing not only a
neutral fundamental power frequency
component but also third harmonic as well as
higher harmonic components. The ECOSine
Active ™
60 Amp filter is therefore suited for
installation at the sub-distribution board
level, as well as for individual loads.
The ECOSine Active
™ 60 Amp
filter employs a very fast harmonic
absorption algorithm capable of responding
to load variations and harmonics to the 50th
order, within 300 microseconds. The
Schaffner ECOSine Active
™
filters provide a tailored solution to
harmonics compensation permitting corrective
current for specified harmonics.
The ECOSine Active
™ 60 Amp
filter can be employed in 4-wire circuits
with line voltages from 380 to 480 Volts,
and frequencies of 47 to 63 Hz. Total
Harmonic Current Distortion (THID) can be
reduced to 5%.
